I provide copies of my NSF application essays here in the hopes that they will be helpful to others. Some things about these essays are rather dated, including but not limited to the use of my previous name. Thus, use these as inspiration for your own application if you like, just don't conclude too much about me (or what I'm interested in these days) from them.

I applied for the fellowship in computer science in fall 2000, and was awarded it for the period beginning in fall 2001. So that search engines can find this -- we're talking about the National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship. Right.
